I taught English as a second language to Korean students in South Korea for over 7 years. I worked in one-on-one class formats, as well as in regular classrooms, with up 30 students per class. I’ve taught to a wide range of people, from kindergarten students to professional adults. It was for the most part a very enriching experience. Keeping classes fun and interesting has a direct effect on the progress of the students.
One of my students, Jane is very creative and very good at writing but has said in the past that she doesn’t like to write. I thought that she might enjoy creating an adventure for someone else to experience. Once we had established a goal that was’t simply to write, it was easier to use writing as a tool and see it as less of a training task. When learning a language through writing, I feel that the most important thing is not so much what one is writing about, but instead that one keeps on writing to ensure development in the ability to express ideas and thoughts. Jane wrote a "Choose your Own Adventure" style of story that I’ve ported to HTML so that she could share it over the internet with her friends. Jane’s Story or adventure follows. (click here)
Late in 2014 Jane and I wrote a story together. Then we spent time bringing our story to life with the help of GoAnimate. We proudly present Cloud Village :
In mid 2015, Ruby (Jane’s younger sister) wrote and illustrated A Snow Story.
